【摘要】By sorting out From East to West: Chinese Travellers Before 1911 and its sequel about “Degele”, the author makes a textual research to restore his true identity, that is, Robert Kennaway Douglas, who is in charge of Oriental books department in the British Museum Library. As one of the most important sinologists in Britain in the 19 th century, Douglas published 10 Sinology related works such as Chinese Language and Literature, Biography of Genghis Khan and Biography of Li Hongzhang, wrote entries related to China in the Great Dictionary of British Biography and Encyclopedia Britannica, and collected and catalogued Chinese books in the library of the British Museum, which is a great contribution to the academic fields of both Library Science and Sinology circles, as well as book exchanges between China and Britain.
