描述:This article investigates Michael Slote’s call for rebalancing Western moral philosophy by using Chinese philosophy, especially Confucianism, as a form of moral sentimentalism. I agree with the need for a correction of the over reliance on reason in Western moral philosophy, but I reject the rational/sentimental dichotomy and focus on the importance of the will. I make use of the important contribution made by Daoism and the conduct concept of wu-wei 無為 . I explain the use of wu-wei in Daoist texts as a nominative to denote a type of conduct, as a verb in moral imperatives, and as an aspiration for human moral behavior. I consider how appropriating this concept into Western moral thought offers significant solutions to three seemingly intractable problems: weakness of will, universalization of moral duties, and the conception of life as plagued by moral dilemmas. I conclude that wu-wei is not the result of some experience of alternative consciousness. It is an alternative consciousness that is shown in behavior, but not able to be said in language.
描述:The paper examines the meaning of wuwei in Tao Te Ching and conducts a contrastive study of the different translations of wuwei in James Legge’s and R. B. Blakney’s versions from the perspective of hermeneutics. The study demonstrates that there are many factors that influence the translation of wuwei, including cultural tradition, specific times and the translator’s personal values. It should be pointed out that it’s quite acceptable to have different understandings and translations of classic works, and it is because of these different interpretations that our traditional culture can maintain its vitality.
描述:The thought of Lao Zhuang inaction plays an important role in Chinese Taoist philosophy, which is an important method and principle to experience Taoism. Based on Jung’s analytical psychology, this study used the literature analysis, comparative research and method of hermeneutics, systematically clarified the connotation of Lao Zhuang’s thought of inaction. And based on the techniques of positive imagination proposed by Jung, this study also compared the relationship between positive imagination technique and Lao Zhuang inaction’s thought.
描述:Taking Hefei metropolitan area as an example, based on the data from 2006 to 2018, the paper analyzed the spatial-temporal changes and the input-output changes of agricultural land use in Hefei metropolitan area from change amplitude and change speed. To explore the driving mechanism of agricultural land use change, the paper selected the driving factors of natural environment and social economy to build a multiple regression model. The results showed that: (1) The amount of agricultural land in Hefei metropolitan area was decreasing from 2006 to 2018, and the area of agricultural land reduces by 861.73km2 in 12 years. There were obvious differences in the change of agricultural land use among these prefecture-level cities. (2) The change of agricultural land use is the join result of regional population, urbanization level, social and economic development, the advancement of science and technology, policies and systems. It is suggested to strengthen the protection of agricultural land resources, especially arable land resources, promote the development of technology in agricultural area, improve the efficiency of using agricultural land and construction land, pursue the policy of cropland requisition-compensation balance and strengthen the cooperation among these prefecture-level cities.
描述:This paper discusses the impact of East Asian philosophical ideas on the origins and development of martial arts. The article argues that the ideas of Daoist philosophy were developed into ‘soft styles’ or ‘internal schools’ that are based on the doctrine of ‘wuwei’ (action through non-action, effortless action) which follows the path of Yin. These styles are in opposition to ‘external’ or ‘hard styles’ of martial arts that follow the path of Yang. Daoist philosophy of ‘ziran’ (naturalness, spontaneity) influenced ‘animal’ or ‘imitation styles’ and the paradigm of natural, unplanned, and unforced combat movements. The influence of Buddhism on martial arts is found in techniques of mental tranquillity training for the extreme conditions of combat. The work also shows the significance of Confucianism for the formation of a code of honor for warriors, which includes the ethics of duty and respect.
描述:For Jung, the discovery of type differences represented the beginning of his individuation journey, and his experiential discovery can model the path of learning about psychological type. A course on psychological type can enable individuals to discover empirically Jung\'s revelations about the psyche if it is structured like the individuation journey itself: beginning with differentiation of the preferred functions, proceeding to the inferior function at the midpoint of the journey, and concluding with an exploration of the unconscious functions. Such a pedagogical method mandates a non-prescriptive approach that empowers students to lead their own learning, an approach expressed by the Taoist concept of wu wei. Psychological Types references wu wei as a means of balancing consciousness and the unconscious. Sometimes Jung\'s typology is thought to deal only with consciousness, but in fact it represented Jung\'s own eightfold way into the unconscious. To illustrate the dynamic interaction of conscious and unconscious functions, John Beebe\'s eight-function eight-archetype model is an indispensable tool, because it illuminates the unconscious opposites inherent in each type and connects them with archetypal complexes. With the aid of Beebe\'s model, students can plot a typological trajectory of development for their journey to the Self.
描述:The Tao Te Ching written by Lao Zi is an important classic of pre-Qin Taoism. In its negative sense, a basic definition of “Tao” is “the movement of the Tao”. Under the premise of this thought, Lao-tzu further advocated the thought of “governance without interference”. This “non-hegemonic” thought of “doing nothing but doing everything” has a common metaphor with the western post-modern thought of “anti-foundation” and “anti-hegemonic” since the middle of the 20th century. Now in the review of the upsurge of sinology, we should be based on the Times to read classics. This article is to review and explain the profound political thoughts in the Tao Te Ching through the characteristics of the era of “postmodernism”.
